ART SHOW 2020!

Our annual art show happened halfway through the school year right before our February vacation. This year was the best turn out yet with families and students attending to not only see their own artwork, but everyone else's artwork! I am always VERY excited to get all the artwork up that day and out onto the tables to see just how hard we have been working as a collective group of young artists.
Each student has one piece of 2 dimensional artwork mounted on the wall as well as one - two more pieces of 3 dimensional artwork out on tables.
Here are some photos of everything on display:

Term One 2019-2020 School Year

First Day of School 2019!

Our focus and theme this school year, The Power of Yet!
I can't draw....YET!
I don't have an idea.... YET!
I don't get it....YET!

6TH Grade, First project of the year: Mandalas Designs

5TH Grade, First project of the year, Keith Haring Character Traits

4TH Grade, did some color theory and painting introduction
lessons and than created secondary color paintings! This group LOVES to paint ( can you blame them :-)

4TH Grade Leaf Prints!  We used our knowledge from secondary color paintings and applied them to creating leaf prints. Gelli print plates were used with paint acrylic paint added on top, and a leaf was added and a positive/ negative image was created. Then a second print was made with the paint left on the Gelli plate and rubbed right onto paper. Two prints with one plate!

6TH Grade, Ugly Mugs! 6th graders had permission to make ugly art, that was a really great conversation. Is art allowed to by UGLY!?!

These are based off of face jugs made by African American slaves during the civil war time period. Some great history behind this lesson!

Before break, 5th grade created STEM creatures with all the materials which were given to them in a bag. They had to use all the material given and work as a team to create a creative characters. There were lots of Turkeys!

The Final Countdown!

As we move, skip, dance and twirl into the end of the year here are some of the projects to keep our CSDA wolves engaged in their last classes of art for the year!
4th and 5th grade Coral Reefs: We had an author/ illustrator visit this Wednesday, Jason Chin, from Burlington, VT. Take a look at his work here: http://jasonchin.net/
Mr. Chin illustrated and wrote a book: Coral Reefs which inspired us to create our own coral reef paintings. We created a cool color background and added warm colors for the coral. Adding the animal was very fun and we were able to study how to draw different animals that live in the coral reef.

Coral Reef display, all classes combined!
Mrs. Gagne is already thinking about next school year!  All 5th and 6th Graders painted murals to welcome us back to school next year. This was a huge hit with the kiddos!
4th Grade Teacher Portraits: What a way to say goodbye to our classroom teachers and review the measurements of facial features. Portraits are tricky because we always like to make them look "realistic". Mrs. Gagne likes to remind her kiddos that it's okay to make it your way, we have camera for "perfect pictures" to capture people. It's WAY more fun to draw it your way and in your style!
